Procedures for foreigners

We provide an expert and professional service for all the administrative issues that you may have.

You may have to deal with the Spanish administrative system for a variety of reasons, whether you are relocating to spain for work, retirement, buying a holiday home or sorting out an inheritance. This would mean having to fill out variuos forms and going through a number of applications to obtain the necessary documentation or permits.

This process can be difficult, stressful and confusing when facing a language barrier and not knowing how the system works or even what is required. When it comes to dealing with paperwork, documents and Spanish administration offices, it’s better to leave it to the experts. That’s where we come in.

Ensuring that you have the correct documentation for whatever you plan on doing in Spain is key.  Being prepared and doing your research beforehand will save you a lot of time and effort in the long run.

You will need some kind of documentation or permit to carry out the following:

  • Buy or sell a property
  • Buy or sell a car
  • Pay taxes in Spain
  • Change deeds into your name
  • Change utility bills into your name
  • Become a resident
  • Get a job
  • Arrange healthcare

The main documents that you will need for the above transactions include the following:

NIE Number

The NIE number, or Número de Identificación de Extranjero, is a unique personal tax identity number that is assigned to every EU or non-EU foreigner that has any legal, financial, professional or social dealings in Spain and whether they are a resident or not.

Padrón

The Padrón, or Certificado de Empadronamiento, is a local certificate issued by your town hall to certify that you live in that area. You will need it to carry out various administrative matters along with the NIE. The Padrón is basically used for census purposes, as your local town hall will receive grants and funding from the central government according to how many people are officially registered as living in the municipality.

Residency Permit

You will need to apply for a residency permit if you plan on living in Spain for more than three months. The permit, or tarjeta de residencia, is a credit card-sized certificate that contains your NIE number and your personal details such as name, address, nationality. This is an important document that you will be required to show in most legal, official and administrative matters.

Health Card

If you live in Spain, you will need to be covered for your healthcare. This means that you either have to take out private insurance or you can apply for a Spanish health card, or tarjeta sanitaria, under certain conditions.

If you are in the process of moving to Spain or you are already here and require help or advice about legal documentation, feel free to contact us now. We speak your language and we are happy to help.
